HDTV - High Definition Television

HDTV

What is HDTV? HDTV stands for High Definition Television. HDTV is nothing more than a set of broadcasting display standards. HD channels and programs can be provided by your cable or satellite service provider. HD channels display at a widescreen ratio of 16:9 rather than the 4:3 standard channels use. HD channels are also displayed at 720p or 1080i horizontal lines of resolution. HDTV programs also include 5.1 channel surround sound, providing the superb audio you get with a DVD, but a much better picture. DVD resolutions are currently displaying at 480p horizontal lines. With HDTV you get a much better picture than DVD, displaying at 720p horizontal lines. Even if you have Digital cable and DTV – Digital Television, this doesn’t mean you have HDTV. You have to contact your service provider about adding HD channels to your service package.
