- Digital Television

What
is DTV? DTV stands for Digital Television. DTV is a set
of digital standards for broadcasting. DTV displays video at DVD
quality and audio at CD quality. Standard Digital cable displays
at 480i horizontal interlaced lines of resolution at a 4:3 display
ratio. DTV displays at DVD quality, 480p (progressive) horizontal
lines of resolution at a 4:3 display ration. DTV has a much better
picture and sound quality than standard Digital Cable. However,
DTV is not as good as HDTV, which displays at 720p (progressive)
horizontal lines at a 16:9 display ratio and offers 5.1 surround
sound.
Having Digital Cable does not mean you have
DTV. Having DTV does not mean that you have widescreen HDTV. To
find out if you are receiving DTV programs, you have to contact
your Cable or Satellite service provider. If you want widescreen
HDTV channels, your service provider can add those to your viewing
package if available.
